Three culinary arts students will be competing against chefs in the annual Soup-a-Bowl competition.
Each year the Soup-a-Bowl gathers the island’s top Chefs to compete for the title of ‘Bermuda’s Best Soup’.
In addition they have amateur entrants, this year from the Bermuda College’s Culinary Arts programme.
Brendan Hassell, Tre Joinville and Shane Morrissey have been perfecting soup recipes to compete in the event on Monday night.
Mr Hassell will be making New England clam chowder, Mr Joinville will be making Pacific seafood chowder and Mr Morrissey will make roasted corn chowder with Cajun grilled chicken.
Chef Shawn Ming is the head of the culinary programme and spoke about the importance of his students being involved in the event.
“I have been familiar with the Soup-a-Bowl for several years,” he said.
“I have even shown up in previous years to represent Bermuda College in the professional chef section.
“The Eliza DoLittle Society has sought the assistance of Bermuda College for several years now.
“My students have cooked Christmas dinners for the seniors and codfish and potato breakfast on Good Friday just to name a few.”
He continued: “This year is the first year that the Eliza DoLittle foundation has had an amateur chefs section, and myself and my students feel very honoured to be the only participants for the amateur competition.
“For some time now my students have been asking me to execute an episode of Chopped, a common food cooking Competition, aired on the Food Network Channel.
“With this Soup-a-Bowl competition, this will give my students a brief insight into the realm of culinary competition.
“Much thanks goes out to the Daily Bread Foundation.”
The event is put on by the Eliza DoLittle Society and will be held at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess from 6pm to 9pm.
