If you are fit, competitive and want to do your bit for charity then the Island Challenge could be just what you are looking for.

Bermuda’s only obstacle course challenge is looking for individual and team competitors to take part in this year’s three-part race.

The second edition of Island Challenge, with lead sponsor is KRyS Global, is due to take place next month and will be the first of three events in the Bermuda Triple Challenge Series 2013.

The Island Challenge will test teams of four along the dunes of south shore on Saturday, 9 March; the Urban Foot Race will challenge individuals through the Town of St George on Sunday, 28 April; and, on Saturday, 12 October in Dockyard, the Royal Challenge will dare individuals or groups (you choose) to tough it out over a course demanding grit and determination. Those who compete in all three events and you will be eligible to be the overall grand prize Triple Challenge winner.

The purpose of the Bermuda Triple Challenge is to raise money for charity, so participants are asked to reach out into the community for pledges of support.

“With all three events, the winners will be determined through a points system that adds the points you receive based on your running time to the points you receive based on the amount of money you raise,” said organizer Aideen Ratteray Pryse.

“So, if you prefer to take your time going around the courses, you can still reach the podium by raising a lot of money for charity.”

For Island Challenge 2013, teams will encounter more obstacles on the sand dunes which will need more teamwork too. The new course and obstacles are designed by Reid Robinson and Jason Correia.

“We wanted to add to the fun and challenge of this event and so we approached Aideen with ideas for new obstacles,” said Robinson.

Jason Correia added: “The first Island Challenge was a lot of fun and Reid and I wanted to build on that. Literally! We are building obstacles now and have developed the course for the Urban Foot Race already. ”

Island Challenge teams will start at Warwick Camp and follow a route that includes Warwick Long Bay Playground, Warwick Long Bay, Horseshoe Bay, the sands dunes behind the beaches and, as a finale, the Regiment’s assault course.

The selected registered charities for Island Challenge 2013 are The Menuhin Foundation, Knowledge Quest and De Boys Day Out Club. More information about the event can be found at www.islandchallenge.org.

“I am delighted to be working with the Bermuda Regiment for the second year in a row. It would not be possible to stage this without the Regiment. It is a truly unique team building experience that is fun, unusual, satisfying and, yes, demanding,” said Mrs. Ratteray Pryse. “You don’t need to be an athlete though, and that’s the best part! Launching the Bermuda Triple Challenge offers the athlete, the sometime athlete and the pseudo athlete three different opportunities to help charities in need whilst having fun at the same time.”

Island Challenge has five divisions: General (all men, all women or mixed men and women), Company and Youth. Theyouth teams will comprise teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18 on race day. The Company teams need only have two employees. This makes it easier for small firms to participate and compete. Teams will compete for first prize in each of the five divisions. There will be one Island Challenge grand prize winner too.
