Dage Minors was named Male Athlete of the Year for Vermont’s Indoor Track State Championships on Saturday.
Minors was a major star at the state meet in sweeping all three middle distance races and anchored his St Johnsbury 4x400 metre relay team to a come-from-behind victory over rivals Mount Anthony Union High School. MAU led the entire race when Minors caught them right before the line to produce a victory by just 0.08 seconds.
Minors won the 1,600 metres in 4:34.37; the 1,000 metres in 2:43.26 and the 600 metres in 1:25.68.
His coach, Chip Langmaid, told the Burlington Free Press, “His workouts have been unbelievable. He’s been phenomenal — it’s scary.”
Minors told the paper “I felt pretty good when I woke up and I said I might as well go for the triple. We went for it and it all worked out.”
It was the third consecutive year Minors won the 1,000m
In spite of Minors’ heroics, St Johnsbury finished second in the state championships with 92 points compared to Essex’ 144.
