R&B band Mint Condition will perform in Bermuda next weekend for the annual Kappa Alpha Psi Valentine’s concert.

The band have been together since high school and is known for their highly diverse musical style. The event is being promoted by BermudaNightOut.com.

Mint Condition are also known for their R&B ballads such as Breakin My Heart and What Kind of Man Would I Be.

We caught up with lead vocalist Stokley Williams and spoke to him about the highly anticipated show.

What can Bermuda expect from a Mint Condition show?

You can always expect a great high-energy show with cool dynamics. We are a very eclectic group, known for switching gears from one genre to the next. We try to keep you guessing and having fun at the same time.

Will there be anything special for Bermuda?

I’m sure we will put something in the show that’s special for Bermuda. Also different crowds bring out another side of us, it’s always going to be different for each show.

How long has the group been together?

We’ve been together for over 20 years and still rolling strong all over the world.

Who are each of you individually and what is your background?

Stokley Williams- drums and lead vocals, Jeffrey Allen-saxophone, keyboards and backing vocals, Homer O’Dell — lead and rhythm guitar, backing vocals, Lawrence Waddell- keyboards and Rick Kinchen- bass, co-lead and backing vocals.

If someone wasn’t familiar with your music, what would you say to encourage him or her to attend?

If they love good music, love being entertained, if they love live instrumentation then they need to be at the show. This is natural medicine that you need to feel good, hopefully uplift and inspire you.

What songs does the group like performing the most?

It depends on the moment, the crowd. But most times it has to do with a song that teases the crowd with vocals or a solo of some sort, or just jumping around on stage.

What songs are the fans’ favorites?

Some would be, but not limited to, So fine, What Kind of Man Would I Be, Breakin’ My Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes), You Send Me Swinging and Forever in Your Eyes.

How often does the group perform?

We are usually on the road every weekend, sometimes with breaks in between.

What do you do when you aren’t performing/touring?

Spending time with family would be the number one at this point.

Other than that, between all of us, flying planes, getting degrees, studying languages, car audio business, photography or just reading books, going to movies. Music is never far away though.

We are always recording if not playing locally at home.

Are you excited performing for the Kappa Alpha Psi Bermuda charity event?

We are extremely excited to perform for Kappa Alpha Psi. It will be an exciting event. We are so honoured to have been chosen.

The concert will be held at the Fairmont Southampton Resort on February 23. The Wall Street Band will back Mint Condition and there will be various Bermudian performers.Doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 9pm. General admission is $100 and VIP admission is $175.
