The entries for the Charman Prize are now available in hard copy from the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art at the Botanical Gardens.
The forms are also available online at www.bermudamasterworks.com under exhibitions, Charman Prize.
The prize is open to all who have resided in Bermuda for six months or more as well as Bermudian artists who now live overseas.
Patron and sponsor and local businessman John Charman said: “It gives me great satisfaction to sponsor the 6th annual Charman Prize dedicated to the visual arts in Bermuda.Over the years I have watched the talents of our artists flourish and new talents emerge. However, the most gratifying aspect of the Charman Prize for me is to see such a broad cross-section of the art community come together to celebrate the “state of the arts on the island”.
Thanks to the generosity of Mr Charman, the competition is able to award prizes “to confer tangible recognition of excellence as well as an opportunity to display the extraordinary range of artistic talent that exists in Bermuda.”
The grand prizewinner receives $10,000 for an artwork that embodies an outstanding example of the judging criteria, which will be stated on the entry form. Four additional prizes of $2,500 are awarded to excellent examples of each of the four criteria, as well as 12 honourable-mention prizes of $100 each.
The theme for this years’ competition is Art In Bermuda: Bermuda In Art and will be judged by a panel of three overseas art professionals
Previous prize winners are: Kathy Harriott (2008); Graham Foster; Sabrina Powell; Andrew Stevenson; Molly Godet.
The deadline for entry is 5pm on July 31,2013. For more information please contact Robyn Hooper 299-4000 or [email protected]
