FRIDAY, FEB 1: Veteran reggae star Luciano will be performing in Bermuda tomorrow night as a salute to reggae icon Bob Marley.

Luciano, also known as ‘The Messenger’ is performing at Veteran’s in Action, a special tribute to Robert Nesta Marley.

The event will be held at the BAA Gymnasium.

It comes hot on the heels of the sold-out Veterans in Action annual Veterans Day event.

This year, the entertainment is stepped up a notch with Luciano and his brother Mikey General performing.

Luciano released the landmark album Where There Is Life in 1995 and emerged as one of the most important reggae singers in Jamaican history.

He is known as a roots reggae artist.

Since that release, the 48-year-old’s music has been consistently praised for imparting sentiments of spiritual salvation, Rastafarian edification and African repatriation.

He said: “We are all children of the most high God and as a rasta man, I acknowledge that I am a child of Emperor Haile Selassie I because all of his teachings are in my songs.

“I am a child of a king and I just want my family and my fans to receive the blessings that God hasgiven through me as a messenger and an instrument of peace.”

Some of his songs include Lord Give Me Strength and It’s Me Again Jah.

Speaking on his music, Luciano said: “I came out of roots and culture as a reggae singer and have proven to people that I can fit into any genre of music.

“I sing reggae, gospel, roots, I will sing rock too but always keeping my message clean, spiritual and cultural.

“Over the years I have listened to international artists like Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Jim Reeves, all these great brothers so I have learned to appreci-love other works.

“There are no barriers in music, although I am well known as a reggae culture singer, I have an international message so I cannot leave it just to reggae people.

“I have to extend it to people of all walks of life.”

Mikey General is also a well-known reggae artist and the brothers tour together.

They recently returned from a sold out tour in Africa and then Rebel Salute in Jamaica followed by a show in Nevis.

Luciano is encouraging everyone to come to the show for a great night of entertainment.

“Come ready to dance and rock all night because I will be pulling out all the stops in this show.

“I will be singing all my past and present hits. I will also be doing a special tribute to the father of reggae music Bob Marley.

“I look forward to this special segment in my Bermuda tour.

“I urge everyone to come out to this very special show.”

In addition to Luciano and Mikey General, local acts include Rivah, Sista Mandy, Shorta Ranks, Shine Hayward and Flookie.

There will also be music played by DJs Juggling J, Conscious J, and Black Star.

Gates open at 9pm and show time is 10pm sharp.

Tickets are $35 in advance.

Organizer Rowan Ramotar said: “We have deliberately kept the price low because we realize we are in a recession.

“Those who really want to go to an event like this can afford to do so.

“We urge everyone to come prepare to celebrate the life of Bob Marley, a true legend.

“Bring your horns and whistles come ready to have a ‘funky reggae party’.”

Ticket outlets are Kit n Caboodle, Fish n Tings, all Money Shop locations, all Belvin’s locations or call 705-2109 for delivery. $35.
