Lasers prepare for a battle out on the Great Sound
The Laser Radial Class Sailing National Championships will be held on Saturday and Sunday in the Great Sound.
The regatta — hosted by the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club — will feature exciting local competition and produce qualifiers for the world youth and senior championships.
Brett Wright, organizer, told the Bermuda Sun: “Right now there’s a really good local competition in this class. We’ve got quite a few youth coming up that are being introduced into the lasers and the laser family so some of them are going to be sailing.
“Some of them are really good. A lot of people are practising and there’s a lot of sailing going on right now.”
There will be five races held each day, and there are expected to be between 12 and 18 boats in action.
It promises to be an exciting weekend of sailing as some of Bermuda’s best showcase their talents in their quest to qualify for the World Championships.
The top female radial qualifies for the 2014 Laser Radial Worlds, while the best make will advance to the 2014 Laser Radial Men’s Worlds. The #1 in the boys and girls categories will qualify for the 2014 ILCA Youth World Championships.
The standard class National Championship will take place on January 4.
