The Bermuda Arts Council (BAC) and the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs have today announced the recipients of the grants for students studying in the fields of visual and performing arts. The Minister of Community, Culture and Sports, the Hon. R. Wayne Scott, JP, MP and Ms. Nishanthi Bailey, Deputy Chair of BAC made the check presentation to the recipients on Thursday at the Ministry headquarters.
The awards were granted to the following:
Deondre Cumberbatch received $10,000 to continue her studies at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta. Deondre? is studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in sculpture and painting.
Charles Godet Thomas received $5,000 to is continue his pursuit of a Master of Fine Arts at the Royal College of Art in London
Kioshi Burgess was awarded $3,000 to continue his studies at William Patterson University in New Jersey. Koishi is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Music.
Ms. Bailey commended the students and praised them for continuing to develop their artist talent. She said, “The Arts Council is pleased to be in a position to financially support the educational endeavors of our local artists. We are continually impressed with the level of talent that lives on our island, and we are always willing to being a part of the journey of growth that our arts community engages in. We wish all of the applicants, and this fall’s award recipients the best of luck during their further education as they pursue their artistic goals.”
Minister of Community, Culture and Sports, the Hon. R. Wayne Scott, JP, MP congratulated the students and thanked BAC for their efforts to provide financial support for deserving students. He stated, “We appreciate the work of the Bermuda Arts Council because of their efforts we enjoy a thriving arts community in Bermuda. The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs will continue to work in partnership with this organisation to promote and support the Arts in Bermuda.”
