The Lancashire Insurance Company has continued its tradition of giving by donating food vouchers and prescription gift cards to the Department of Child and Family Services.

Last year the company donated food hampers but this year decided to go for a different tact.

Lancashire CEO, Elaine Whelan, told the Bermuda Sun: “By giving food vouchers instead of hampers, people can purchase what they need at the time rather than receiving goods that they may not use.

“Most of us look forward to the festive season and over indulging, but for some it is a particularly hard time of year. Lancashire has always believed in helping those in need.

“Giving a little help to those less fortunate than us at this time of year is the least we can do.”

The company donated a total of 45 food vouchers ($100 each) to needy families and 15 prescription gift cards ($100 each) to foster children with chronic
ailments.”

The Minister of Community, Culture and Sports, the Wayne Scott, thanked Lancashire Insurance for their generous donation.

He said: “Lancashire has consistently demonstrated their commitment to help families in our community.

“We recognize their contribution as corporate partners doing their part to help families in need. During this time of year, we appreciate both community and business partners being willing to step-up and assist where they can. “

Family Services Foster Care Coordinator, Selena Simons added: “With approximately, 20 per cent of our foster children having chronic medical conditions that require ongoing medication, these gift cards will greatly assist these children.”

Lancashire also raffled off parking bays to staff with the proceeds going to a different charity each month.

This month, they decided to use the monies to purchase food items that will be donated to the Family Centre and the Eliza DoLittle Society.

They gave its employees Christmas gifts of vouchers and many of them have opted to use them to purchase goods to put in the food donations for the charities.
