Casino nights come to Fort Hamilton next month in the form of a fundraiser for Raleigh Bermuda.

The charity will host the Monte Carlo Casino Classic Fundraiser on September 14 featuring a DJ, casino games, a full bar and tasty food.

Kristin White, executive director for the charity, explained how the event came to be.

“The idea came from an active Raleigh volunteer who has worked with Select Sites at other casino night events,” she said.

“He suggested that we do it as a fundraiser, as he figured that they would be willing to allow us use of the equipment, which they did.

“The hope is that it becomes an annual fundraiser for Raleigh. I know all charities are looking for creative ways to raise funds, and this is ours.”

Ms White said the event will be a “really fun and classy affair”.

“We will have everyone’s favourite casino games, plus crown and anchor, and folks will get a cup of chips on their arrival.

“It’s just for fun – and bragging rights. We will have music, food, a bar.

“It will just be a fabulous night.”

White said there will be a DJ for dancing and several stations set up for food.

Asked what the money will go towards, she said: “Thanks to our sponsors, Deloitte, Belco, Select Sites and Conyers Dill & Pearman, half of the event cost is sponsored.

“This means most of the funds raised from ticket and bar sales will go to our youth development programmes for the coming year.”

Asked why the community should attend, she said: “It’s going to be a really amazing,  fun and unique night out at beautiful Fort Hamilton.

“And Raleigh has done some incredible work with Bermuda’s youth over the years, so it’s definitely an organization that could use the community’s support.

“As you know, I’ve stepped down from my role at Raleigh, and this event will be one of my last tasks as Executive Director, so I’m hoping to go out with a bang as it were.

“I’m also going to pretend it’s my farewell party.

“We are hoping to get a few hundred people there, so start buying those tickets folks.”

The event will be held from 8pm to 11pm. Ticekts are $75 and available www.ptix.bm.

Each ticket includes food and two drink tickets.

There will also be a silent auction held with great prizes.
