Warship headed here after narcotics missions

The Royal Navy’s longest-serving Type 23 frigate will arrive in Bermuda later this week to top up her fuel tanks.

HMS Argyll is expected to arrive in Dockyard on Friday morning to refuel before shifting down to Hamilton in the afternoon.

The warship’s crew will then have a chance to take in the island’s sights and sounds before they head for home on Monday. 

HMS Argyll passed through the Panama Canal just last week after a conducting a string of counter narcotics operations in the Eastern Pacific.

She was built in the late 1980s at the Yarrow Yard on the Clyde in Scotland.

And the ship underwent a $30 million refit in Rosyth between 2009 and 2010.

The frigate then returned to service in the Gulf before heading back to her home waters in 2012 again for major upgrade of all her systems.

This ship is now one of the most up-to-date and capable frigates in the naval fleet.

Meanwhile cruise liners and container ships make up the rest of the shipping schedule this week.

The Breakaway and the Summit arrive in Dockyard today for their two-night stays.

The Somers Isles also arrives in Hamilton from Florida.

Tomorrow the Bermuda Islander will come alongside in the capital, while the Oleander is back again this weekend.

Finally the Norwegian Dawn and the Grandeur of the Seas are back again this Sunday in the West End.
