“A tapestry of Bermudian poetry icons” are to perform at the last installment of ARS Poetica tomorrow evening at the Chewstick Lounge.

The evening will feature three local poets —Bermuda Folk Life Officer at the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Kim Dismont-Robinson, poet Tiffany Paynter and the Bermuda Library Independent Poets’ Nick Hutchings.

They will build on the “power group” of poets that have performed as part of the series previously including Vejay Steede, Laurel Monkman, Dejon Simons, Alan Smith and Stephan Johnstone.

The ARS Poetica Summer Series, curated by Yesha Townsend in conjunction with The Chewstick Foundation was launched to celebrate the “beauty and artistry that is poetry”.

When asked to describe the series Ms. Townsend said: “it’s about the poem. top to bottom.

“ARS Poetica is an unobtrusive moment with poetry. Nothing else, no flash just a stage, a poet and their words.”

Proceeds from the ARS Poetica series are applied to the ChewSLAM Teen Poetry Club, so that poets presenting as well as attendees can lend their support to a vital programme managed by The Chewstick Foundation while enjoying an evening out.

Chewstick’s Deidra Lee Bean said: “The series has  allowed the genre of poetry to be featured on its own uninterrupted night, as each poet’s work has the time and focus to  stand on its own and be experienced, interpreted and pontificated upon in the same way as visual art or theatre...

“Don’t miss the opportunity to see poetry at its purest as each poet featured in this last instalment for this year, will further enhance the
excellence of the series and leave the audience thoroughly entertained.”

The event takes place tomorrow night at The Chewstick Neo-Griot Lounge on the corner of Elliot Street and Court Street, Doors open at 7pm, Show starts 8pm, entry is $10, payable at the door. For more information email [email protected] or call 292-239.
