CV Café & Conscious Vibes Fair Trade launched its new website recently. Located at www.cvcafe.co, the site is fairly straight-forward.
Besides offering a list of when it is open for breakfast and lunch, it also promotes owner’s Michelle Wales’ goal of promoting fair trade.
It has a slide show of several products that are either fair trade certified, organic, green friendly or are local.
The Cafe is located in St George’s, and it’s website also promotes events that are happening in the old town in its calendar like the November Art Walk .
Ms Wales told the Bermuda Sun “the website is simpler. I’ve kept off a lot of the graphics and that sort of mumbo-jumbo off to get to the point of what I’m trying to do.”
She said the events page is new and while it just has two listings, the Art Walk and the Olde Towne Market Season — she plans on adding more to help bring a attention to that things are happening in St George’s.
“I’ve also added the videos from both Laura and Ami (Zanders), which adds a nice dynamic to it.”
Ms Wales may even blog on her new site about her passion for fair trade.
She said it is even more important than ever to let the world know about fair trade.
“People are coming to the point where they realize we have to be sustainable and green. It’s taken a long time for the message to begin to sink in — maybe 30 or 40 years.
“People are realizing we can’t keep on damaging the environment and keep screwing people over, which is basically what the west has been doing to the rest of the world. It must cause resentment if you’re living elsewhere. If you’re living in poverty, you’re desperate and you’ll do desperate acts.
“This is important to support — it’s all part of that movement of trying to be more ethical and more conscious about who we’re using and what we’re impacting.”
She strives to buy fair trade products for her store and when she can’t find a product, she will buy local. “I feel I’m just doing my bit.”
Even though Ms Wales has fair trade products at her store she feels it would be great if every retailer did, even if that cut into her business some because the world would be a better place.
