Play Skillz Summer Camp students packed groceries at the Market Place, Church St in honour of Seniors Month and diabetes awareness.
Donations given to the summer camp packers will be put towards fruit baskets for seniors.
The mission of the Play Skillz programme is to have its participants give back to the community through community service. It is hoped that “giving-back” to the island will instill in them a greater respect for Bermuda.
The initiative is led by Summer Camp counsellor Taché King, and overseen by Randy Spence (business owner of Play Skillz).
Social issues
The duo have created a unique programme for its students, addressing environmental & social issues through various activities.
Having just had their KBB (Keep Bermuda Beautiful) day, campers will also spend time learning drama, dance, “theoretic travelling” to other islands (in order to learn more about their own culture), academics, as well as the occasional video game.
Play Skillz believes in using technology as a tool to fuel the imagination; often YouTube videos are used to educate the campers about other cultures and ways of dressing.
These videos are later interpreted by the young people and performed amongst their peers.
