One Bermudian DJ is asking for your help in raising money for breast cancer research.

DJ Bitsy will be walking in the two-day Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in October and needs your help to make it happen.

She will be hosting a fundraising event at Fun Golf in Dockyard next Friday night. Funds raised will help women who are battling breast cancer.

“At a young age I watched while my cousin, now a survivor, go through treatments for this disease.

“As I was so young I didn’t understand what was going on, but saw that it was emotionally taxing on her and the family.

“Just a short few years later, her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer and later passed from the disease.”

She continued: “Unfortunately, the gene is very prominent in my family. My nan has fought her fight and most recently my mom, both survivors.

“So it’s a cause very dear to my heart.

“I’ve grown up witnessing the advancement in detection and medical treatments, as well as survivor rates and want to do my part to ensure it continues and leads us to a cure.”

As far as the event next Friday, Bitsy said: “I wanted to create a fun and festive event that family and friends could enjoy with their children.

“With the new Fun Golf opening in Dockyard this year, I couldn’t think of a better place.

“The management and staff are so friendly and giving. The atmosphere is positive, beautiful and relaxed, not to mention the incredible sunsets.

“When I approached owner, Jill Kowalchuk regarding my idea, she jumped at the opportunity to be apart of such a great cause.

“She has been very instrumental helping me plan the event and secure sponsorship from Goslings as well.”

The DJ plans to walk 39 miles in the walk in October. Her participation helps to ensure funds go to breast cancer charities.

“The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer donates money to organizations responsible for critical research regarding all facets of breast cancer.

“During the closing ceremony, cheques are presented on stage to the various groups.

“It’s so rewarding to see where your money is going and it makes the sore muscles and blistered feet well worth it.”

Bitsy hopes to raise at least $1,800.

“There is no entrance fee, but there is a reduced rate for playing golf with those funds and the funds from purchasing a glass or bottle of Martini & Rossi Rose sparkling wine, sponsored by Goslings is going toward my fundraising efforts.

“Additional donations are welcomed.”
