Bay draft in Furbert

Bailey’s Bay have named their squad to defend the Eastern Counties title against St David’s at Lords on Saturday.

Champions Bay will take on their rivals in the second round of the competition without Tre Manders, who is currently representing an ICC Americas Select team at the West Indies Under-19 Regional tournament in St Kitts.

It’s a loss for Bay given the form of the Cup Match hero, who scored a cultured century for Somerset in the annual cricket showpiece.

Teenage all-rounder Azendea Furbert, 15, has been recalled to fill the vacated spot.

Furbert is in fine form as well, coming off a 59 in Bay’s defence of their junior title in the Junior Eastern Counties against Cleveland at Sea Breeze Oval.

The Berkeley Institute student is expected to slot into the champions middle order.

Bay beat Cleveland County by 49 runs in the first round last month at Lords.
