Archery clinic set to hit the target
Gold Point Archery is hosting its first Annual Archery Clinic and tournament this weekend at Kilgore Field, St David’s.
There will be an archery clinic with special guest Dan Schuller, a member of the US archery team between 2005-2012 and a former senior outdoor target national champion, on the Saturday from 4pm to 7pm.
Registration deadline is noon on the day, with space limited to 10 particpants.
The tournament will take place on the Sunday from 11am to 3pm, which is open to all ages seven and up.
The registration desk will be open from 10:15am to 10:45 both days for late entrants. Schuller works for Lancaster, an archery supply firm in the USA, who also try to promote the game around the world.
Event organiser Ross Roberts said: “They wanted to help us to grow and this is something they suggested.”
He added: “We want to get back to the days when we were sending people overseas to compete.
“I think the last person was Paul Harshaw two years ago at the Island Games in Isle of Wight.”
Roberts admits archery has experienced a lull on the island.
But he sees signs it is set to make a recovery.
“It’s definitely made that turn now we’ve got a range we can use.
“We’ve got Dan coming down and in the early part of next year we have a couple more. It should boost the sport and get people back competitng internationally.”
