August 7: At the Helm
Ceci flies the flag...
The eight Bermuda junior sailors took to the water for the final day of the O’pen Bic World Championships in Italy, with three of them holding on to excellent top-10 finishes.
A total of 170 participants from 12 different countries took part, with all the Bermuda sailors taking part in the Under-16 category.
On the last day, the wind picked up, leaving all the competitors exhausted.
Three races was sailed on the day with Ceci Wollmann leading the Bermuda fleet.
She moved up one spot from sixth to fifth and reached the podium after finishing second in the female division.
She ended the regatta with 48 Net Points and was leading the female division until two capsizes on the final race.
Mikey Wollmann finished in sixth. He had 53 Net Points after finishes the 10 races.
The other Bermuda sailor to finish in the top 10 was Peter Dill who finished in eighth with 60 Net.
Sammy Dill finished in 49th place with 316 Net, while in 64th place was Charis Todd with 465 Net.
Aglae Perrin finished in 75th with 566 Net, while Brandon Adams finished 81st with 611 Net.
Blair Blakeney rounded out the Bermuda Fleet in 86th place with 642 Net Points. n642 Net Points.
Amaral stays cool
James Amaral, of Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club, sailed in the Junior Olympics in the Laser Radial class at Rochester Yacht Club.
A total of 22 Laser Radials participated in chilly conditions in variable winds — with Amaral finishing 12th.
The US Sailing’s Junior Olympic Sailing Programme is a nationwide series of sailing regattas for youngsters aged eight to 21.
Each event in this family of regattas is hosted by a different club or organization, but all events share a common goal — to encourage young sailors to enjoy sailing and to develop their skill.
Larson in New England bid
Adam Larson continuing his summer racing programme with LOOT (Lake Ontario Optimist Team) as he competes at the New England Optimist Championships.
