Dr David Wingate is to give a talk this evening about how the removal of invasive species could help save not only Bermuda’s cahow but attract other native species.

The talk is titled: Turning the clock back on Nonsuch island: The Making of a Sanctuary for Bermuda’s Pre-Colonial Heritage Against the Onslaught of Invasive Species.”

Dr Wingate will follow the story of Nonsuch Island as a nature reserve to his retirement, following the many invasive removal projects, introduction of natives and the battle to keep the island native.

He aims to inspire a provocative argument that if a native environment was built and managed, that the native flora and fauna, would come, including Bermuda’s endangered cahow.

Tickets are $15 and available by calling 294-0204 or visiting Oceans Gift Shop at BUEI.

Special menu at Harbourfront — advance purchase required: $39.75 (includes gratuities). Doors open at 6:30pm with happy-hour priced drinks at Harbourfront; lecture starts at 7pm.
