Inspiring moments: Overcome Evil by Doing Good

Romans 12: 21 

“Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”

The evil in this world has been around since sin entered the world. 

The Bible tells us to stay away from all kinds of evil. Since sin has entered the world, murder, abuse, adultery, fornication, blasphemy, deceit, stealing and much immoral behaviour has taken place. 

In Romans 3: 23 it says: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”  

The good news is that we can receive forgiveness for the sin that we have committed. 

1 John 1: 9: “If we confess our sins, He (God) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 

While we all have sinned, God does not want us to practise and dwell in it.

We have been told to overcome evil with good! 

That means if evil is happening all around us and to us, we can have the victory over it by doing good. 

How can we overcome evil?

Walking in love

As believers we must walk in love and are commanded to love one another. What is love? 

1 Corinthians 13:4 -7 tells us: “Love suffers long and is kind, love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

I believe a lot of the issues in this world today come from a lack of love for us and a lack of love for one another.  

When we walk in love others may treat us badly and do wrong to us but we can still bless them and be kind to them in return. We must remember as believers, vengeance is in God’s hands. 

Serving the Lord

 As believers we can serve God in many ways. 

True service for God is done from the heart. 

We must be passionate about what we are doing. 

No matter the evil that is happening, when we are working for the Lord we are walking in obedience to Him and building His Kingdom for His Glory. 

Are you serving the Lord?

The pressures of evil are all around us. It is shown in the media and everywhere that we can imagine in this world today, but as believers we must rise up and take our proper positions and let us overcome evil with good. 

Let us not repay evil for evil. 

I encourage you to do good to not only them that are good to you, but be a blessing to someone that you have difficulty with. 

We must show the world the love of God and once they see His love it can bring the very change in their life that they need. 

Prayer

Dear Lord, I thank you for your everlasting mercy and love towards us. 

Help us to overcome the evil in this world today by doing good. 

Show and teach us how to love one another that we may walk in the way that is pleasing to you.
