Project Action will host a high tea to celebrate the 60th anniversary coronation of Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II.
The event will be held on June 9 at the Fairmont Hamilton under the patronage of the Governor, George Fergusson and Mrs Fergusson. Tickets went on sale on Saturday.
The funds raised will go towards seniors who don’t have access to transportation.
Organiser Cindy Swan said: ““We take for granted that we will always be able to transport ourselves, jump in our vehicles and drive off on our merry way or walk down to the bus stop and catch the bus to town.
“Unfortunately there are many seniors that have no means of transportation, can’t drive themselves, some don’t have family members around or are wheel chair bound.
“Supporting Project Action’s annual fundraiser by any method helps to provide door to door free passage for this sector of our community.”
In addition to the tea, there will also be a fashion show.
Mrs Swan continued: “Project Action’s blue bus provides an invaluable socialization outlet for the shut-ins at home, the senior in rest homes and seniors clubs.
“Most have few family members or friends who visit and the anticipated outing on the blue bus may be their only trip outside their respective homes.
“The men and especially the women, powder their face, ask for their Sunday best dress and are glowing when the bus arrives for their special trip.
The ‘Red Bus’, driven by Shuby DeGrilla, provides door to door transportation, such as doctor appointments, dialysis appointments and grocery shopping for transportation-challenged seniors and the physically challenged.”
The MC’s for the event are Robin Blackburne and Judith Hall-Bean.
The event starts at 3pm and tickets start at $50 and go up to $500 for gold VIP’s.
They are available online at www.bdatix.bm and at Guilty Pleasures in Washington Mall.
