CableVision helps feed the needy

Upon learning that the food bank of The Eliza Dolittle Society was operating at near-empty, Bermuda CableVision management and employees quickly mobilised to do what they can to help.  CableVision’s General Manager, Terry Roberson, authorised an emergency donation of $5,000 to be made immediately, while Bermuda CableVision employees began organising a food drive and collecting items to supplement the monetary donation.

CableVision staff are actively gathering non-perishable food items for donation, and the company is inviting the public, as well as its customers, to help support the drive by dropping off food items at its Washington Mall Customer Care Centre.

$6 Credit for food drive

“We at Bermuda CableVision were devastated to learn of the dwindling supplies at the The Eliza Dolittle Society food bank,” says Terry Roberson, General Manager, Bermuda CableVision. “Our immediate reaction was that we wanted to help, so we are coming forward with this $5,000 donation today. In addition, our employees felt that, since so many people come through Washington Mall each week, it would be a good idea to organise a food drive to help continue replenishing the food bank’s supplies. When we see a need such as this in the community, we like to do what we can to support them. So we are appealing to the public and our customers to participate.  In fact, Bermuda CableVision will provide a $6 credit to the account of any customer who comes in with three non-perishable food items, and in addition, the customer will receive a coupon for a $5 Video-on-demand movie. So, if you are in the vicinity or are coming by our Washington Mall location to pay your bill, please consider those less fortunate and bring in your donations for drop-off.”

Terry Roberson was like a breath of fresh air coming here and I so appreciate his enthusiasm and the support of all the CableVision staff.”

The Eliza DoLittle Society provided a list of non-perishable items that it would particularly like the public to donate: macaroni, spaghetti, rice, cheddar cheese soup, cream of mushroom soup, traditional spaghetti sauce, canned tuna fish in water, boxed cereals, pancake mix, pancake syrup, brown sugar, ketchup, mayonnaise, Vienna sausages, canned lunch meals, fruit cups, juice boxes, peanut butter, jam.

The Eliza DoLittle Society provides 2,000 meals a week in Bermuda across its feeding programmes and food banks. Donations of fresh and non-perishable items are also welcome directly at The Eliza Dolittle Society food bank, which is located at 40 Cobb’s Hill Road (a yellow building on the corner of Cobb’s Hill Road and Middle Road).

The food drive at Bermuda CableVision’s Customer Care Centre in Washington Mall is set to continue over the next two months.
