Tokio gives back to Bermuda

Three charities have benefited from Tokio Millennium Re’s Day of Giving.

The staff displayed community spirit at The Reading Clinic, Casemates and WindReach.

According to a press statement, The Reading Clinic received a new coat of paint for its resource library while at Casemates Tokio employees did pre-restoration demolition work.

They also gave a huge boost to WindReach by taking care of some urgently needed gardening and conservation work.

Tats Hoshina, CEO of Tokio Millennium Re, said: “This was Tokio’s first global ‘Day of Giving’ and it was wonderful to be able to work with three such deserving charities on the island — The Reading Clinic, WindReach and The National Museum of Bermuda.

“Our offices in Zurich, Australia and London were also taking part in charitable activities so it was incredibly rewarding to simultaneously be able to give back to the communities we live in around the world.”

Zoë Kempe organized the day and said: “We really enjoyed being able to involve the whole company in this ‘give-back’ event.

“It also provided us with the perfect opportunity for some company team building. We plan to make our Day of Giving an annual event and have enjoyed collaborating with these three worthy charities.”

All three charities were thankful for the help.

Dr Edward Harris, executive director of the Bermuda National Museum, said: “We were delighted to have Tokio Millennium Re using their volunteer day to assist the National Museum with the restoration work at wonderful Casemate Barracks.

“It is expected that volunteer days such as Tokio Millennium Re’s will be of tremendous importance in preparing the site for its ultimate restoration.”

Erica Fulton, WindReach Bermuda executive director, said: “As long-time supporters of our work, we much appreciate Tokio choosing us as one of their projects. 

“They worked to clear areas of our sensory trail and pond as well as parts of our boundaries that have become overgrown with invasives. A large group like this can accomplish a lot in a few hours, and it also gives us an opportunity to show Tokio staff what they have been helping to support over the years.” 

Julie Dunstan, executive director for The Reading Clinic, added: “The Reading Clinic would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to the volunteers from Tokio Millennium Re for helping us to refresh our resource library. 

“These improvements to our environment are important in communicating to our students, tutors, parents and volunteers that they have the support of the community behind them.”

Tokio plans on making this an annual event and looks forward to helping worthy charities again next year. n
