Walker Campbell beat an international field to take the International Junior Golf Tour Classic last weekend.
The tournament was played at the Oyster Reef Golf Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
Campbell won the Boys 14 & Under Division, finishing ahead of competitors from China and Kazakhstan.
This was a breakthrough victory for Campbell after competing in several tournaments during the 2012-2013 season.
The youngster said: “It feels great to get my first IJGT victory.”
Campbell, of Paget, Bermuda, was tied for the lead with Kevin Ying of Shanghai, China, after a first-round 8-over-par 80.
He was hungry for a win and came out strong with a 3-over-par 39 on the front nine during the final round. He carded a single birdie for the day on No. 7. Campbell struggled a bit on the back nine, but carded a second 8-over-par 80 to for a tournament total of 160. His consistency was just enough to edge out the competition.
Ying finished in second place carding 167 for the Event. Alexandr Kuzmin of Almaty, Kazakhstan came in third place with a tournament total of 176.
The IJGT Southeast tour will return to Hilton Head Island, S.C., on April 27-28 for the Auntie Anne’s Pretzels Junior at Shipyard Golf Club.
