Scott became the first Australian to win the Masters on Sunday evening, holding off the challenge of Angel Cabrera in a nerveless display of shot-making and putting.
As well as a coveted Green Jacket — his first major — the victory also earned him qualification to the annual showdown at Port Royal between the four major winners.
David Charles, senior director of championships for the PGA of America, can’t wait to see Scott tackle the Southampton course — and admitted he’d love to see 14-time Major winner Woods add another to his collection so Bermuda fans get to see one of the game’s greats up close.
Charles told the Bermuda Sun: “I’m just looking at the countdown and there are 179 days until Adam Scott tees it up at Port Royal. We have our first Aussie Masters champion, which is nice to have.
“Obviously after Rory’s meltdown at Augusta he bounced back and then Adam having his four-hole wobble at Lytham [last year’s Open] and now bouncing back to win the Masters — there’s another nice comeback story there.
“People had their doubts about Adam and for him to be able to bounce back was fantastic to show what he can do, mentally as well.”
He added: “Woods did well at Augusta and he’s won three events already this year — he’s got three more chances to get to Bermuda, he’s chasing Jack’s record of course and he’s highly motivated.
“We’d love to have Tiger at the Grand Slam, and he’s done very well in the past. He’s played eight times and won seven. He’s missed it twice in Bermuda when he qualified, one when he had a bum knee, the other for the birth of his first child — they’re the reasons he hasn’t been in Bermuda. Of course, the other reason is he hasn’t been playing well enough!”
Charles backed Scott to handle Port Royal with aplomb and said fans will enjoy his driving ability.
He said: “Greg Norman was always known as one of the best drivers in the game, so for him to say he feels Adam is a better driver of the ball than him? That is saying a lot.
“His consistency of keeping the ball in play is obviously what you need around Augusta. But Adam also came through with the putter.
“Port Royal is all about the wind. If it’s very calm, the players will shoot the lights out. If it’s not then it comes down to whether you can play the wind ball.
“Last year we had Bubba Watson who hits it very long but is rather erratic but Adam is very controlled and should do very well.”
