Adam Scott became the first man to qualify for this year’s PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda by winning The Masters on Sunday. He also became the first Aussie to win The Masters.

The 2013 PGA Grand Slam will once again be played at the Port Royal Golf Course.

Scott won the Green Jacket when he birdied the second sudden death playoff hole with a 15-foot putt against 2009 Masters’ champ Angel Cabrera.

Cabrera missed his chance to force a third sudden death hole when his putt curled an inch away from the hole.

At the press conference following his victory, Scott said: “I felt my way today. There was some luck there somewhere. I don't know how to digest it all at the moment, but it was incredible."

Cabrera, who won the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in 209 and the Pink Jacket, said at the conference: "That's golf. Golf gives and takes, so yeah, sometimes you make those putts, sometimes you just miss them. That's golf."

David Charles, senior director of Championships for the PGA of America, said: “Adam Scott has come close to winning Major Championships many times before and now he finally has a well-deserved breakthrough. After making history for Australia at the Masters he has an end-of-season celebration to look forward to in Bermuda.”

The Grand Slam features the winners of the year’s four Major Championships – the U.S. Open, the Open Championship, the PGA Championship and the Masters.  The other three qualifiers will be decided in June, July and August of this year.  Only players who have won a Major can earn a spot in the elite foursome.

The Gland Slam will be played six months from now, October 14 to 16, and broadcast to a worldwide audience by Turner Sports on TNT.  The Bermuda Department of Tourism, Port Royal and the Fairmont Southampton will host the 31st PGA Grand Slam of Golf.

Ticket-carrying fans are allowed to get closer to the pros at the Grand Slam than at any other competitive professional golf tournament.  Because there is only one group during the two-day event spectators are permitted to follow the players down the fairway of every hole – standing just a few feet from the action in some cases.

Andy Burrows, Grand Slam chairman, said:  “Every spring when the Masters Champion is crowned it starts our engine for the Grand Slam in the fall.  After watching this year’s exciting tournament on television our whole team is really revved up for October.

“Congratulations to Adam Scott and we look forward to hosting him and the other Majors Champions in Bermuda.”

The PGA Grand Slam of Golf features a $1.35 million purse, with the winner receiving $600,000; second place $300,000; third place $250,000 and fourth place $200,000.
