Inspiring Moments / Speak Life
Meditation
Psalm 35:28: “And my tongue shall speak of Your righteousness and of Your praise all the day long.”
There were times in my life that all I saw about me was a failure.
I struggled academically and in other areas in my life.
The challenges looming near, and the insecurities of never measuring up became baggage that I carried around.
The frustration built up so much I began to say that “I’m a failure”.
The words that I spoke began to take root and as a result I was filled with self-doubt.
The words we speak matter. They greatly affect us whether it is good or bad.
Our tongue can be a very destructive tool.
James 3:4 -6: “Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.”
5. “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!”
6. “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: So is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.”
What we choose to speak over and over, whether it is truth or lies, we eventually begin to believe.
The things we believe begin to show in our actions and lifestyle.
While we cannot tame our tongue, the Holy Spirit can, but we must do our part in surrender to the Lord.
To speak the Word is to speak Life.
When we are speaking we are either speaking blessing or cursing. Whatever situation we are in we can choose to speak life or speak death.
It doesn’t matter what is happening in the natural we can still speak the Word over our circumstances.
There are times when something happens we tend to add to the negative by how we speak.
If we are honest with ourselves we all face times where we haven’t spoken life.
It happens and we are human, but we can make the change to speak life.
Every time when you are tempted to speak negative or have spoken negative, find a scripture in the Word and read it out loud over and over and meditate on it.
What helps me is writing it down and putting it in a place where I will see it often.
Here are a few examples:
I can do nothing right.
Life Word: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. (Philippians 4:13)
I’m an embarrassment.
Life Word: I am fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14)
My life is messed up.
Life Word: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. (Jeremiah 29:11)
What are we speaking? Are we speaking life?
Prayer
Lord your Word says death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21).
Help me to speak words of life that will not only make a difference in my life, but in others.
Holy Spirit I ask that you will guide my tongue in the way I should speak.
In Jesus’s name, Amen!
