The Bermuda Sun has created its own version of the birthday shout out, once popular with listeners of the island’s radio stations.
Sun Readers can submit a happy birthday wish to a loved one for free by using the newspaper’s online classifieds website SunShopper.bm. The website will accept a photograph and personal message to commemorate birthdays, newborns, anniversaries, graduations or any other life event worth celebrating.
The finished product is called a Milestone and appears once weekly in the Wednesday edition of Bermuda Sun. Plus a video version, featuring online reporter Mikaela Ian Pearman, will appear on the Sun’s website and Facebook Page.
The Bermuda Sun has offered Milestones as a free community service to its readers for many years, but this is the first time it has incorporated video and social media components.
“Our readers enjoy Milestones, but it was time to give it a facelift,” said Sun online sales and marketing executive Ephraim Divine. “Adding the video and social media elements was easy because we work in those media everyday. Plus, Facebook has become the new go-to place for birthday well wishes anyway — it’s a perfect fit.”
The newly enhanced Bermuda Sun Milestones is sponsored by P-Tech. The company will be marketing its photo printing services as another way to fittingly commemorate milestones.
