WALIA MING

A time for spiritual reflection during the fast of Ramadan

Walia Ming: Muslims in Bermuda and around the world will in the next 24 to 48 hours begin to observe the fast of Ramadan.

Discerning the truth from perception

Walia Ming: We must dispel perceptions and act on truth — truth is fact and fact is what will withstand perception.

Never become too arrogant to have good manners

WAlia Ming: Bermuda seems to be populated with people both local and foreign who simply do not have any manners –– how sad, as part of Bermuda's culture, our heritage and what we are world-renowned for is our manners, our courtesy and our warmth.

Be kind and good to our mothers and fathers

Walia Ming: Every day our mothers should be honoured and respected; in fact as should fathers as well.

Accept then move to resolve our problems

Walia Ming: It's said, "The truth will set you free", yet very often when the truth is spoken people take it as offensive. The truth-speaker often ends up in hot water.

Parents need to give children the teaching of a reality check

I thoroughly enjoyed the Agricultural Show last weekend, the exhibits were amazing, the talents displayed were incredible and the creativity just abounded.

Life’s trials make us stronger

Walia Ming: Whew, good thing I know how to take my trials and tribulations because if I didn’t I would be one spiritually weak sister!

We must respect the Earth to live in harmony

Bermuda has experienced some very strange weather in these past few weeks; I think I can confidently say that most of the world has experienced the same strange tweaks of Mother Nature.

Many misconceptions abound about who Muslims worship

Walia Ming: Many believe that Muslims worship Muhammad – but this is absolutely not true!

Welcome Muslim faith as part of our community

Walia Ming: Many of my fellow Bermudians are still mystified by the presence of Muslims in Bermuda and globally.

Strong family bonds prepare us for life

Walia Ming: In Islam, there are a few basic values, which, if followed, allow mankind to attain a good and moral level of life.

You need to be positive to overcome a bad situation

Walia Ming: People seem to be more nasty and hasty than ever before. I wonder what it is? What is happening to the happy Bermuda resident.

Heritage reminds us of who we are

Walia Ming: I cannot let [Black History Month] pass without mentioning one of our own Bermuda heroes and that is Dr Pauulu Kamarakafego.

Deeds done with good intention lead to paradise

Walia Ming: When our deeds are done with good intentions, it leads the way to Paradise, such as what happened with the black bondswoman who cleaned the mosque.

True ignorance is displayed in matters of race

Walia Ming: When we tend to hate each other simply because of skin, creed and cultural differences, we appear more ignorant than ever.
