What the Premier might have said to us this Christmas

An open letter (imaginary) from the Premier.

It's been a good year: I visited Mandela's cell and enjoyed the Obama victory

This will be a special Christmas. Several things have happened. Though they were not directly connected, they were still strongly connected.

The highs and lows of our first year in Bermuda

Happy Christmas from my family and me to you and your family, and to friends with whom you may be spending Christmas. Or, if you are spending Christmas on your own, Happy Christmas from me to you.

I have deep faith in all Bermudians to pull together in tough times

On behalf of my Parliamentary colleagues and members of the United Bermuda Party, I want to extend our best wishes to the people of Bermuda this Christmas Day.

The billion dollar questions we face

This year is ending. GMC and Chrysler may be ending. Lehman Brothers, Northern Rock, Zoom Airlines have ended. The island nation of Iceland is up-ended by national banking failures. I'm wondering about Bermuda in 2009 and beyond.

Letter - Beach bar: we're repeating mistakes of the past

I am trying to understand why Mr. Balcario Thomas has been given permission to build a beach bar on one of Bermuda' most pristine beaches under the guise of serving tourism with environmental sensitivity.

Environment: the good, the bad, the ugly

This past year was a signal year for the environment, but there's work still to do.

Why not scrap the term limit policy?

I was cautiously optimistic after reading Immigration Minister David Burch's pledge to be flexible with the Government's term limit policy and apply it in ways that will not prejudice "the successful operation of business in Bermuda."

Letter - Our roads must be made much safer

Firstly let me offer my heartfelt condolences to all those families who lost loved ones on Bermuda's roads last year and in fact all the years before that. My heart truly goes out to you all in your grief.

Premier, I pledge to be more understanding from now on...

An imaginary open letter (actually written by LaVerne Furbert) from Stuart Hayward to Premier Dr. Ewart Brown. (This follows Stuart Hayward's imaginary letter from Dr. Brown to the people of Bermuda - BDA Sun, 24.12.08).

Would Obama win for the PLP in Paget West?

Perhaps, finally, we have started a debate which is long overdue but necessary.

Will Obama be gentle with us?

Barack Obama becomes the 44th President of the United States of America next Tuesday.

Lack of openness breeds mistrust

TIME and TIME again I want to give this Government the benefit of the doubt, but time and again they blow it.

Yesterday, euphoria. Today, war and economic chaos

Yesterday's Inaugural was all about happiness, the past, and the future. More than anything else, it showed that America is a great nation and Americans are a people still able to rise to the ideals set out in their Constitution.

President Obama, sure you're not talking about us?

I've never seen President Barack Obama wandering around Bermuda. I've never seen his gangly frame in the visitor's gallery at the House of Assembly. And the President (like the Premier) does not subscribe to The Royal Gazette.

The Bermuda Sun bids farewell...

JUL 30, 2014: It marked the end of an era as our printers and collators produced the very last edition of the Bermuda Sun.
