Tourism's needs are here and now, not on the other side of the world
THURSDAY, FEB. 4: The Premier today says his trip to drum up tourism business from India "makes eminent sense". We disagree, completely.
Premature political obituary of Dr. Brown ignored his triumphs
Well Larry Burchall finally did it. He wrote the Premier's political obituary - for perhaps the second or third time over the last two years.
Steps government could take to make Bermuda 'greener'
The golden rule in care of the environment is "think globally but act locally". If any (or all) of the developed countries are going to reduce their GHG emissions as we are asking, they are going to have to do it citizen by citizen.
Gov't takeover of corporations could cost millions
Bermuda faces significant challenges. In the coming days, Bermudians will learn the extent to which our national debt has grown.
Budget shows Gov't is not careful with public's cash
Towards the end of Monday's first series of debates on the Budget, I reiterated the need to anchor management of the public purse to the principles that guide a family budget - living within one's means, judicious use of debt and sound judgment.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Letter: Here's how the Causeway could be improved
The proposed public-private partnership to finance this project will result in a project cost significantly more than a typical public financed project.
Work together to kill the roots of racism still plaguing our island home
Just 55 years ago the island was a divided country. There were two Bermudas, one black and one white. Much of the 1950s, '60s and '70s was a time of segregation, intolerance and racial injustice.
What are foreign consultants being paid $800k to do to our Corporations?
On January 22, Health Minister Walter Roban announced Government had awarded an $800,000 contract to McKenna, Long & Aldridge - a foreign firm with headquarters in Atlanta - to review all aspects of the municipalities of Hamilton and St. George's.
Xenophobia is contributing to our failing economy
The latest anti-Bermudian quotation attributed to Senator Burch is this: "It is a personal wish of mine that if you bring one foreign spouse and you divorce them, you can't have another one."
GUN VIOLENCE SPECIAL REPORT
Viewpoint: Has the gun violence altered your daily routine?
With the recent escalation of gun violence - including Sunday's apparently random shooting at the Western Stars Sports Club - it might appear to some that no one is safe. The Bermuda Sun took the streets to ask people if the violence has caused them to alter their behaviour/routines.

The community must oppose undemocratic takeover of Corporations
For as long as I can remember, I have participated in public service - from community projects to raising funds for various charities, to actively promoting social issues such as the mentoring of young persons.

Should Minister Blakeney have the right to overturn Clayhouse planning rejection?
I read with interest the article in last Friday's edition of the Bermuda Sun entitled 'Clayhouse Inn will reign supreme again'. The article described plans to build "12 new homes, a 100-seat restaurant and other amenities on the North Shore Road site".

Be a national hero, report the thugs plaguing Bermuda
Most people, most organisations, most countries, most civilisations bumble along merrily enough in their day-to-day lives most of the time. People love their families, make a bit of money, raise their children, have a few vacations...
Premier wants civility... but he must show it too
Premier Dr. Ewart Brown's dogged attachment (addiction?) to gambling shows up in his post-debate press release, which was clearly an attempt to offset the shattering defeat of parliamentary objectors to institutionalised gambling outnumbering proponents by almost five to one.
Bermuda Day is for rejoicing in our culture... but have we lost all sense of it?
Once again we head into another Bermuda Day in Heritage Month —when we reflect on who we are and our culture, a diverse set of traditions honed from many places.
