Heroes' Day should honour inspirational Bermudians from our past and present

I was very pleased to see the article in the May 28 edition of the Bermuda Sun concerning Bermudian citizens being called upon to nominate someone to celebrate as a hero for the 2011 National Heroes’ Day.

Minister is right to warn against 'unsafe' home births

I write on behalf of the Department of Health regarding an article in last week’s Bermuda Sun, War Of Words Breaks Out Over Home Births.

Letter: 'I am proof Premier's ideas for prison reform can make a difference'

After reading the June 18 article in the Bermuda Sun —Premier: Cons Can Help Us Catch Crooks — I was compelled to share my own personal experience.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Letter: We've all had our knocks; what matters is how we rise up

This is a response to LaVerne Furbert’s statement, “people who live in glass houses really should be careful when throwing stones,” in reference to Ceola Wilson’s article entitled: ‘Will the PLP elect another woman leader? Part 1 of 2’.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Letter: Government should pay for gang mediation

I read James Whittaker’s piece from August 18, with Col. Burch opining that Government should not be responsible for financing gang intervention.

Letter: Restrictions on non-Bermudian property owners will thwart hotel development

A significant number of wealthy non-Bermudian homeowners have purchased condominiums and villas that were built (or are being built) by hotel properties in critical need of cash flow.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Letter: I'll remember Bermuda's beauty and the generosity and hospitality of islanders for the rest of my life

Following five days spent stranded in London's snow-laden Heathrow Airport with thousands of other travellers, I could hardly believe my luck at being marooned in Bermuda.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Letter: Sir David's Bahamas analogy 'like comparing apples and oranges'

It would be interesting to understand how Sir David comes to the conclusion that the forming of OBA is anything at all like the formation of the FNM in the Bahamas.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Letter: PLP is out of touch with the people

The PLP are now out of touch with reality and have lost touch with the grassroots and the common folk of this island, of which I am one. Bermuda has turned for the worse and the PLP Government has contributed greatly to that.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Letter: 'Gay rights' is the wrong phrase

Your paper has on multiple occasions used the phrase "gay rights" to describe the issue.  We do not feel that this is a "gay rights" issue ... anyone can legally be discriminated against on the basis of his/her sexual orientation.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Letter: Bermuda's friendliness has inspired us

Our memories of the friendly faces we encountered in Bermuda will last a lifetime.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Letter: Keep an open mind - no one has a monopoly on morality

Never be afraid to question. There is nothing so sad as seeing a congregation who profess themselves God-fearing, yet fear each other far more.

OPINION

Letter: Transportation problems help explain why cruise ships are pulling out

Letter: The main reason cruise ships are withdrawing from Bermuda is due to irate passengers and bad feedback to the cruise lines about the lack of transportation by buses and ferries.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Letter: Share your arts insights

Letter: I have for some years now been busily engaged in researching and writing about Bermuda's art history, from the earliest days up to recent times.

OPINION

Letter: Let's be clear, debt ruins job opportunities

Allan D. Marshall: I don't know where Mr Hayward studied his finance and economics, but it bothers me that senior people in the BPSU would write articles supporting Government's decision to expand Bermuda's debt obligations.
