Washington DC office hosts first Bermuda Day (Update)

It was an international gathering at the First official Bermuda Day in Washington DC.

Organized by the Government’s Overseas Representative Office, the event attracted dignitaries from Angola, Madagascar, Turkey, Morocco, Aruba, United States, and the UK.

The event was also attended by David Dodwell, chairman of the Bermuda Tourism Authority; Bill Hanbury CEO of the BTA, Baltimore Blastcoach David Bascome

Well-known steel pan player Robert Symons provided theentertainment.

The event provided an opportunity for leaders of the business, political, and diplomatic community to network and celebrate Bermuda’s national holiday, commemorating its multi-cultural heritage, educating them on Bermuda and celebrating the start of summer.

Approximately 150 people attended the private, invitation-only event, where welcome remarks were delivered by Overseas Representative Ms Packwood. 

The event was sponsored by the Bermuda Tourism Authority.

Goslings supplied Black Seal Rum for the event and allowed the Bermuda Representative Office to highlight one of its most widely-known products. Robert Symons, renowned steel band musician, gave a stellar rendition of some of Bermuda’s best and traditional music.

Ms Packwood said: “This was a great opportunity for us to continue to build strong relationships with US and international leaders inWashington, DC. We were able to bring together people from all corners of the United States and the world on the rooftop of our offices to celebrate our heritage, and in doing so, we continued our outreach efforts.

“We appreciate the support afforded to us by the Bermuda Tourism Authority as our partners in the event. Having been to a number of events hosted by other jurisdictions, countries and organizations, I know that these efforts really do make a difference in our relationships and the ability to find common understanding and establish respect.”
