This past weekend Facebook rolled out its ‘Ask’ feature.
On the left-hand side of a Facebook profile where it lists ‘Work’, ‘Education’, ‘Lives’ and ‘Relationship status’, if the owner of the profile has not made that information public, you will be able to ask them for it.
Basically, anything that’s left blank in their ‘About’ section, you will be able to find out more info.
The person can then decide if they want to reply or not.
It can get a bit tricky with relationship status as the person being asked can check a range of options without typing anything. They can tell the would-be flirter (stalker?) they are ‘Single’, ‘In a relationship’, ‘Married’, ‘In an open relationship’ among other selections.
For those who enjoy their privacy — and there just well may be a reason why that ‘About’ section wasn’t filled out in the first place — there’s no way to stop the ‘Ask’ button from showing up on your profile.
Some are touting it as a way to find out more on a person’s relationship so they can use it to ask the person out in real life.
But in reality, that’s a bit high schoolish and real men have the courage to do that in person rather than ask through Facebook.
