A Princess Street resident has taken matters into her own hands after she says she and her neighbours have had to compete with Hamilton workers for parking spots outside of her home.
Lisa Swan, who has lived on the street for the last two decades, says the problem began approximately three weeks ago when the road reopened after being paved and the sidewalks were resurfaced.
“When they were done, they did not put the signs that say this is residential parking back so people who park in town are now parking out here. Sometimes all day,” she says.
Mrs Swan says some mornings, if she catches people trying to park, she explains the situation to drivers and asks them not to park in the spot directly outside her home.
Most times, she says, they comply, but sometimes her request falls on deaf ears.
The self-employed woman says she has now resorted to placing cones in the two parking bays outside of her home, but that has not proven to be effective all the time.
Just a few days ago, Mrs Swan says the driver of a car moved one of the cones and parked partially in both bays, which not only inconvenienced Mrs Swan but no other cars could fit into either space.
Saying she called the Corporation of Hamilton about her concerns earlier this week, Mrs Swan says she is yet to have the call returned.
“I have no issue with the Corporation,” she stresses. “I just want the signs reposted so that we can park outside our homes during the day like we have all these years.”
A spokesman for the Corporation of Hamilton said: "The signs will be reposted next week and the delay was caused due to logistical issues."
