The Bermuda Squash Racquets Association will host the World Distributors Charity Squash Tournament, which runs from today until Saturday.
The event will feature more than 75 participants across six divisions — the Men’s A, B and C; Ladies’ A and B; and Junior division.
Part of the proceeds from the tournament will go towards supporting the Bermuda Diabetes Association.
BSRA assistant director of squash Runa Reta said the huge success of the recent Legends event at the club had whetted players’ competitive juices.
She said: “The Legends event was incredibly inspiring for our members to watch world-class squash and I know that they have been itching to get back into competition themselves.”
Reta said the tournament, sponsored by World Distributors Ltd, will see the return of Jason Shrubb from his studies in the US — and she backed the #3 seed to be one to watch.
“He is surely going to be in top shape after completing the US college squash season, so he is one who could cause an upset,” said Reta.
“He is scheduled to meet Nick Kyme in the semi-final.
“In the women’s, Alex Furtado is a former junior who has returned to the island and will be looking to cause an upset in the Women’s A division.”
The BSRA director of squash Patrick Foster is the defending champion and is seeded #1 in the men’s draw.
In the women’s event, Susie Lacy is the top seed, while Liz Martin is #2.
