A new art exhibition “full of light, air and the drama of nature” opens at Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art this evening.

Waterways features watercolours by Molly Godet — last year’s Charman Prize winner — Charles Knight and Chris Marson.

The opening reception is from 5:30pm to 7pm in the Rick Faries Gallery at the museum and the show runs until May 14.

Masterworks said: “There is a reason why watercolour has always been a significant medium in Bermuda: the light and colour here are a watercolourist’s dream.

“Turquoise water, pastel houses, white roofs and dark and dramatic foliage for contrast, along with rapidly changing weather and clouds.

What more could a painter want?

Homer, Pleisnner, Demuth and, more recently Malcolm Morley, along with a host of others, both foreign and local, have all explored Bermuda to great effect with watercolour, taking advantage of the immediacy and transparency of the medium to interpret our surroundings.

Molly, Charles and Chris paint together on a regular basis with the Bermuda Plein Air group and their work shows the results of many hours spent outside, braving the elements, in front of an easel.

“It is full of light and air and the drama of nature.

You will see three very different styles here, but all three friends and fellow-painters greatly respect one another’s abilities and feel that this show will be an ideal showcase of the strength of modern watercolour in Bermuda.”
