Finance Minister Bob Richards hailed the change in legislation that allows international firms to purchase property in Bermuda.

He said in a TV interview this would help companies stay in Bermuda and create jobs for Bermudians.

Mr Richards said: the new Government intends “to be as user-friendly as we possibly could be.

Not only to have them in Bermuda, but to grow roots in Bermuda so they stay, expand, hire our people and provide wealth for the island.”

He said the change to allow “exempted companies... that we have in Bermuda to purchase Bermuda real estate for those purposes.

“Not for speculation or anything like that. We wouldn’t want that to happen, but for the purchase of senior staff and also for office space.”
