Hundreds of soca junkies filled “Jenny’s Car Park” last night at the annual Return Fete.

The party, organised by DJ D’General, also known as Jason Sukdeo was held from 9pm onwards and saw a large crowd in the lower level of the parking lot.

The return fete is an event that is held a few weeks after Trinidad Carnival has finished. The latest soca music is usually played with a mix of old music as well.

This year, the event was a bit different because of the new location and the fact that soca artist Farmer Nappy performed.

Let’s talk venue first. A party has never been held in this car park, located between the Bacardi Building and Flying Fish Restaurant, so it was a bit different.

My friend and I got there at 10:30pm and were surprised to see how many people were there. The stage was set up at one end with the bar and food at the other end.

There was a large speaker setup and neon lights to create a party mood. I like the rawness of the car park for a party like this.

Juggling Jason started off the party with a big mix of soca tunes and got the party hyped. It was full well before midnight with rags being waved and whistles being blown.

Rusty G came on after him and turned the party a few notches playing last year’s soca hits and the new songs from this year.

He got on the mic and added even more energy to the already energetic crowd.

By the time Farmer Nappy came to the stage, before 1am, the energy was super high. He was dressed in all white with his dreads pulled back in a neat ponytail.

Farmer Nappy sang his hits including “Stranger”, “Family”, “Chippin” and his new song, “Big People Party”.

The crowd was engaged and seemed to enjoy his performance. It was a bit short but still very enjoyable.

Overall, the party was great and a ton of fun. My only complaints were that people were allowed to smoke because while technically it is an outdoor space, it was enclosed and the cigarette smoke was very annoying.

Second, the sound system wasn’t the greatest so when I left, my ears were ringing. Hopefully that doesn't mean I’m getting old!
