Tourists and residents alike will soon get the chance to see a Fun and Free Historical Sketch about the history of the Royal Naval Dockyard.
The entertaining sketch, written by Barbara Jones, will be performed every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 9:30am to 9:50am in the Victualling Yard. Jones told the Bermuda Sun: “It explains, in a broad brush, how the Royal Naval Dockyard got there and why. I use the device of a couple of older women who remember the days before the Dockyard. It is set in 1863, which is when they had just completed the
first phase.
“The women are chatting with a British sailor, who is there as part of the Navy at the time. Woven in, with some humour, it tells the story about what Ireland Island was like before the 18th Century, why the Admiralty purchased it and why it was necessary for them to build a new naval base and a broad outline about how it was built by the British Army and Navy.”
The sketches will be performed from May 1 to Oct 3.
