The island’s largest annual youth football tournament kicks off this weekend at the Bermuda National Stadium.
Seventy eight local teams and three teams from Boston are scheduled to compete in the seven-on-seven tournament known as the Kappa Classic. More than 1,000 youths will participate.
The classic begins tomorrow at 9 a.m.; games are slated to last all day long until 5:30 p.m. The matches will continue on Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. The tournaments various semifinals and finals ware expected to wrap up in the early afternoon.
The event is organized by the Bermudian Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, which is a college fraternity. All the games, which last 25 minutes each, will be played at the National Stadium. The tournament is open to the public, admission is free.
This year marks the first team the tournament will feature teams from outside Bermuda.
Money raised from the event will go toward the chapter’s foundation, which gives out scholarships each year to Bermudians looking to further their education overseas.
