'I will never forget the day I lost my daughter'
Unfortunately, Limson Ruz knows full well the anguish of “No parent should ever have to outlive their children”.
The Filipino barber, who works at Dodds, Barbershop in the Washington Mall, was here in Bermuda when his 10-year-old daughter lost her battle with the disease.
He said that made it an easy decision for him to volunteer his services to the St Baldrick’s head-shaving ceremony at BAA last Friday night.
Mr Ruz told the Bermuda Sun: “I lost my daughter four years ago, that’s why I am involved with St Baldrick’s. She died of lung cancer, that’s why I am here.
“I will never forget that day because it happened on Bermuda Day. I will never forget that day as I was here and had to go home. It was really difficult; really hard for me.”
“I had to go home and needed to embrace my daughter and hug her. We have but one life so that’s why I went there to show my love to mydaughter.
“It’s a really difficult situation, but you have to move on. There is a time for everything.”
Which, he said, made him glad to help out St Baldrick’s, which uses the money raised to help fund research to cure childhood cancer.
“This is good for the charity. This helps show our humanity.”
