Eclectic instrumental concert comes to Crawl Church

An ‘intriguing’ mix of music students, their teachers and other professional musicians will be performing at Crawl Church, Hamilton Parish.

The concert takes place on Saturday, March 29, at 7pm and is being organized for three principal reasons.  

Firstly, it will showcase young music students and inspire them to pursue their musical studies. Secondly, it hopes to offer the community an enriching cultural experience.  Last, but not least, the concert will raise funds for a mission in Zambia, Africa.

Co-organizer Dean Furbert told the Bermuda Sun: “This concert will be well worth attending because of the wide variety of instruments that will be played by a wide range of ages and abilities — young stars in the making and consummate professionals. Come and hear the African bata drums, the xylophone and vibraphone, the steel pans, the violin, oboe, brass, recorders and of course the piano.” Attendees will be able to listen to a variety of professionals, among them Otis Gibbs from St Croix, US Virgin Islands, music teacher at Purvis Primary School, who will play the vibraphone, along with his student Amon Wedderburn on the xylophone, and Paul Smith, Bermuda’s own popular Steel Pannist, who was featured in the Bermuda Sun column on January 31.  

These two unique presentations will give a special flair to the musical evening, said Furbert.  

Other performers include Malik Alick, Jude Richardson, Aaron Ratteray on piano, Robert Burgess on Oboe and several other students of well known music teachers: Lloyd Matthews, Dr. Ada Nyabongo, John Woolridge, Jared Robinson and Dean Furbert.

Also, guests will be able to hear original poems recited by Victoria Robinson and June Crichlow.

This concert is being organized by a committee headed by musician/educator Dean Furbert. It will feature performances by some of Bermuda’s best and brightest talent. “You will not want to miss this spectacular event,” Furbert added.
