The Adult and Youth Services Departments of the Bermuda National Library are sponsoring their annual Summer Reading Programme – Read Around the Rock – from June 30 to August 16.

The summer reading programme is designed for youth and adults to learn more about our island home in a light-hearted way.  Adults can choose from books that give insight to interesting facts and folklore about the nine parishes from the St. George ‘stock market’ selection and ‘fish’ for your Sandys’  Heritage choice from the’ library depths.’  The remaining seven parishes will represent specific subject areas of the library collection.

Julie Bean, Public Services Librarian says, “Registrations increase with each summer and winter programme, participants report that they have enjoyed the challenge.”  She added, “This year we have added e-books, e-audiobooks and e-music to the materials selection.  Sign up is easy and registration at the Library on Queen Street.”  The programme is free and open to residents over 14 years of age and there will be weekly prizes and a final grand prize.

Marla Smith, Youth Services Librarian explained, “The summer reading programme for youth will use the parishes to group various reading genre that the children are required to read. Once they complete each of the three levels, they earn prizes and when they complete the third level, students earn a raffle ticket toward the grand prizes -10 speed bike and iPad minis - at the end of summer party.”

Ms. Smith added, “In addition, the Youth Library has planned daily activities for young people.  A calendar of events is available at the Library on Church Street.”
