Howzat! Chare Smith

In a new series, every week the Bermuda Sun will bring you a player profile from the Bermuda Under-17 boys’ side, who represent the next generation of the island’s cricket hopes.

This week it’s Chare Smith...

Age: 16

Style: Right-hand bat;  right-arm over; mid-off or fine leg fielder.

Nickname: N/A.

Club: Warwick Workmen’s Club.

School: Bermuda Institute.

Ambitions (cricket): My long-term ambitions include playing cricket at a
professional/international level. But for the near future my ambition is to help the Under-19 team qualify for the World Cup next year.

Ambitions (life): My ambitions for life are driven by my love of sports; I plan to pursue a career as a
physiotherapist specializing in sports related injuries.

Local hero: My local hero is my Papa (Robert Simons). He was a great fast bowler in his younger years for Cleveland County CC.

International hero: As bowling is my speciality, it’s James Anderson for England.

Cricket history: I started with St David’s CCC at the age of five and later moved to Warwick Workman’s
Club, where I have played for the Under-11, Under-14, Under-17 and senior men’s teams.

I have played Junior County for St David’s and I also represented Bermuda during the Under-15 National Squad tour of England in 2013.

Favourite food: Corned beef hash with rice and beans.
