Teleza Pitcher was announced as the 2014 recipient of the Brown Family Health Scholarship.
Pitcher will receive $5000 towards her studies this fall as she attends Howard University, Dr. Ewart Brown’s alma mater, and studies dentistry.
Dr. Brown, who established the scholarship five years ago along with his wife Mrs. Wanda Henton-Brown, presented the check and said “We believe that it is our duty to assist those who come behind us, and that is exactly why we are here today.
“Bermuda needs more Bermudians taking up careers and leadership roles in the health industry. We congratulate Ms. Pitcher and wish her much success as she takes up her studies at Howard University.”
Pitcher accepted the check and is looking forward to pursuing her lifelong career goal: “I’ve been waiting for this moment for a very long time, I’ve wanted to be a dentist since I was a little girl. I’m excited to be starting dental school and getting into the healthcare profession.
“I am so grateful for the Brown family and their assistance, it is going to be a great help as dental school is very costly. I expect to start my own practice and contribute to the Bermudian community.”
