Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust (BHCT) today announces that AXIS CAPITAL in Bermuda has made a $1,000,000 donation to the Why it Matters capital campaign, which is raising funds to transform King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) into a world-class hospital facility September 2014.
This latest donation takes the running total for the campaign to close to $31 million since its launch in April 2011. BHCT is leading a capital campaign with a philanthropic goal of $40 million to put towards the $247 million redevelopment project. The project’s overarching aim is to deliver an enhanced level of hospital care for the benefit of the whole community.
“AXIS is very pleased to support the Why It Matters campaign with this donation, as construction concludes and the facility transitions into active use," noted AXIS Capital CEO Albert Benchimol. "As a member of Bermuda’s corporate and social community we are committed to doing our part in helping to deliver enhanced and affordable healthcare, which will positively impact the quality of life for generations to come,” he added.
Philip Butterfield, Chairman of BHCT, says: “We are deeply appreciative of the generosity of Axis Capital and their commitment to this extremely important redevelopment project. With AXIS’ support we are one step closer to achieving our goal of providing a world class standard of excellent health care through modernized facilities.”
Upon the completion of the redevelopment project, patients and visitors will benefit from a state-of-the-art medical facility, matched by an exceptional standard of clinical practice and patient-centred care.
