Jazz drummer, author and teacher Eddie Ming is celebrating 15 years of running his Rhythm Lab in St. George’s this weekend.
Mr Ming has played the drums for 40 years, published several tutorial books on jazz drumming and usually teaches music once a year in Cuba. He says he can teach any style and draws influence from a myriad of drummers, including Buddy Rich, Tony Williams and Philly Joe Jones.
Mr Ming, a former professional chef, is offering a vegetarian buffet and vegan tasting to accompany a jazz performance that will include local musicians Gita Blakeney and Dayton Wharton.
“It’s a recital with a theme,” says Mr Ming. “It’s going to be a celebration.”
Funds raised by the event will go toward publishing three new drum publications, said Ming.
Doors open at 7:30pm on Saturday. Eddie Ming’s Rhythm Lab is located at 6 Old Military Road, St. George’s. For more information, call 297-2874 or 297-8422.
