A talented Bermudian sports star has won a scholarship to play American Football in Florida.
Michael Joynes will team up with the Sterling College Warriors later this year when he starts college.
Joynes and his family moved from Bermuda to Florida in 2007.
He recently graduated from Liberty High School where he made a huge impact on the football field on both sides of the ball.
The 18-year-old racked up 51 tackles, 11 sacks, 1 interception, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in his last season at High School.
He told the Sun: “I’m extremely happy to have received a football scholarship to Sterling. I’m looking forward to the overall experience that college has to offer, making new friends and, of course, becoming a part of the Sterling football team Warriors.”
Joynes plans to major in Business Administration.
Sterling College is a Christ-centred liberal arts college with students from 32 states. It is also part of the Kansas College Athletic Conference and an NAIA school.
The Warrior football team won its conference championship this year and is looking forward to building continued success this fall.
Head coach Andy Lambert said: “We are pleased to add Michael Joynes to our team this fall. We look forward to continuing to strive for success and character building in our programme.”
Joynes’ mom, Gayna Joynes, added: “My husband, Michael Sr., and I are extremely proud of Michael. He’s a great kid, very respectful, lots of fun to be around, although he loves to tease too much.
“We know he will do great in college, and look forward to everything that God has for him in the future.”
