Dear Tony,
What abysmal news!
I’m so sorry and send my condolences to you all.
My goodness, I joined the Sun shortly after it opened -—Tracy was a baby so it must be nearly 50 years ago.
I remember Major John Barritt calling me and begging me to join the staff.
“But Major Barritt,” I said, “you told me it was far more important to stay home with my babies!”
“Yes, he replied, but not right now, I need you here.”
Well, for one pound a day, how could I refuse?!
I had many happy years with the paper, short time, part time and contributor.
I mourn the loss with you all.
Best wishes wherever you go and whatever you do.
Remember, when a door closes, another opens.
